About the Company
Spiro is one of Africa's most ambitious clean mobility companies, on a mission to make affordable e-bikes and battery-swap solutions the default mode of transportation across the continent. Headquartered in South Africa with operations spanning Uganda, Kenya, Benin, Togo, and Rwanda, Spiro manufactures e-bikes and batteries locally, fueling clean industrialization, jobs, and economic growth in every market it enters.
By the time Spiro engaged Tequity, the business had begun scaling rapidly. With every new market, the operating model expanded - new agents, new dealers, new distributors, new factories - and the underlying technology and processes needed to keep pace.
The Challenge
Spiro's biggest constraint was not demand - it was operational scale. Several challenges emerged:
- Fragmented operating ecosystem: Sales agents, managers, distributors, franchisees, and dealers each needed their own onboarding and operating workflows. The existing systems were not built for this scale or breadth.
- Aggressive go-to-market timelines: Spiro had committed to 10x sales in 100 days, and execution capacity needed to match.
- ERP transformation in flight: Spiro was migrating off Atlas (Zoho-based) and onto SAP across all countries. Finance, procurement, manufacturing, and customer success had to land cleanly on the new platform without disrupting operations.
- Limited internal bandwidth: The Spiro team needed a partner who could simultaneously own product development, ERP integration, and on-the-ground change management.
Solution Implemented by Tequity
Tequity ran one of its largest delivery engagements alongside the Spiro leadership, structured across two parallel tracks:
Track 1: Operating Ecosystem Build
- Designed and built end-to-end onboarding flows for sales agents, managers, distributors, franchisees, and dealers - taking them live across Uganda and Kenya within a 70-day sprint.
- Delivered a comprehensive admin suite (CMS, EMS, dealer admin, manager admin) with consistent UX across roles.
- Built supporting tools for monthly leasing contracts, factory production planning, and field operations.
Track 2: SAP Transformation
- Closed critical gaps that allowed Spiro's finance team to complete month-end reporting on SAP and the procurement team to run all workflows in-platform.
- Built Fiori UIs for finance data uploads to make the system usable for non-technical end users.
- Optimized SAP license usage to reduce ongoing cost.
- Delivered Phase 1 integration of the existing Atlas/Athena CRM with SAP, plus an automation program syncing data across platforms.
- Migrated Spiro off Atlas/Zoho onto SAP, executed cutover-balance data migration, and stood up the production environment for a January 1st go-live.
- Ran end-user training across all countries and supported ongoing SAP adoption.
A dedicated cross-functional Tequity team owned product management, design, engineering, QA, and DevOps - working as an extension of Spiro's leadership.
Results
The platform Tequity built for Spiro now powers the company's commercial backbone across multiple African markets. Headline impact:
- 1,400 Million+ kilometers driven on Spiro e-bikes
- 1,500 swap stations running on the platform
- 37 Million+ battery swaps processed
- 80,000 Tonnes of CO2 emissions saved
During the partnership, Spiro raised $100M in funding - a milestone the leadership has publicly attributed in part to the operational and technology readiness Tequity helped deliver.
