About the Company

Muse is a US-based vertical software company building for med-spa and aesthetic practices. The product premise is simple: in a med-spa session, the practitioner should be focused on the client, not on note-taking. Muse records sessions in the room, then turns those recordings into structured clinical notes and follow-up actions. The result is a practice that runs smoother, retains more clients, and recovers practitioner time.

Tequity has been Muse's product and engineering partner from MVP through V2, including the heavy infrastructure work that comes with running real-time audio capture in clinical environments.

The Challenge

Audio-first clinical workflows are unforgiving:

  • MVP from a thin starting point: Muse came in with a strong vision and minimal product surface. The first version had to validate the proposition with real practitioners.
  • Audio reliability in long sessions: Real session recordings are long, network conditions vary, and any data loss is a hard product failure.
  • Smart Notes generation: The output had to be structured clinical notes useful enough to replace manual note-taking, not just a transcript.
  • Practice operations features: Appointment booking, client contact management, and session recovery flows had to be built around the core recording experience.
  • Onboarding-readiness: As Muse approached new client onboarding, stability and recovery had to clear a higher bar.

Solution Implemented by Tequity

Tequity ran the full product cycle for Muse with a dedicated cross-functional team.

Phase 1 - MVP Build:

  • Completed end-to-end product development from design to UAT.
  • Initial UI changes, IG post integration, and go-live.

Phase 2 - V2 Enhancements:

  • Appointment booking feature - clients can now book appointments through Muse.
  • Session Recovery functionality to recover sessions cleanly after interruption.
  • SmartNotes generation post session-recovery, ensuring no clinical notes are lost.
  • Card Scanner to add new contacts directly from physical cards.

Phase 3 - Audio Infrastructure Rearchitecture:

This was the headline technical workstream. The team rearchitected the entire audio recording workflow:

  • Initially moved from end-of-session uploads to AWS multipart uploads for better performance.
  • Identified reliability issues with multipart uploads during page reload scenarios.
  • Implemented the final production solution: uploading audio chunks to S3 at 10-second intervals.

The result:

  • Improved system stability across long sessions
  • Better recovery during interruptions or page reloads
  • Reduced risk of data loss during long sessions
  • Readiness for upcoming client onboarding

Continuous Quality and Insight:

  • Improvements to Insights Generation.
